VCU Health Children’s Hospital of Richmond — Wonder Tower

The Wonder Tower is a fourteen-story expansion of VCU Health’s Children’s Hospital of Richmond, unified through a story-driven experiential graphics program inspired by the animals and habitats of the nearby James River.

Each floor features a unique animal mascot paired with a color, creating intuitive wayfinding for patients and families, including the hospital’s large pre-reader population. Every mascot appears as an adult-and-child pair, reinforcing the message that children are never alone on their path to healing.

Designed for patients from prenatal care through young adulthood, the environment balances playful discovery with moments of calm and comfort. The Wonder Tower welcomed its first patients in spring 2023.
